Safeguarding is
Everybody's Responsibility

At JEP Youth Engagement, safeguarding is central to everything we do. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where all young people and adults feel valued, protected, and empowered to thrive.
Safeguarding is not just our duty, it’s a shared responsibility for ourselves, our partners and our service users that underpins our ethos of care, respect, and trust.

Safeguarding Team

All staff at JEP receive comprehensive annual training in child protection and safeguarding, including training on safeguarding adults and other key areas that support our learners. Our safeguarding team across all provisions are trained to level 3 and they are fully familiar with the safeguarding procedures and reporting expectations, and we use the secure CPOMS system to log and manage any concerns promptly and confidentially.

Our dedicated Safeguarding and Pastoral Team plays a vital role in promoting YP well-being. They work closely with learners, families, and a wide range of external agencies to ensure every YP receives the support they need—whether at JEP or beyond. We recognise that factors outside of education, such as childhood trauma or family circumstances, can affect a YP’s well-being, and we value open communication with parents and carers to provide a strong support network.

JEP follows the latest Department for Education guidance and best practices. Our safeguarding policies are regularly reviewed and updated to ensure we meet national standards and respond effectively to emerging needs. At JEP we work collaboratively with our Local Authorities Safeguarding boards and complete 175 Safeguarding audits to inform us of good practice.

If you have a concern about the safety or well-being of a YP, please contact our Designated Safeguarding Leads or any of the pastoral team highlighted below.

The safety and welfare of our YP’s is our highest priority. By working together, we create a community where every learner can feel safe, supported, and confident to reach their full potential.

Operation Encompass

JEP is part of a project that runs in partnership with Bolton Safeguarding Children Partnership and Greater Manchester Police. The purpose of  Operation Encompass is to safeguard and support children and young people who have been involved in or witness to a domestic abuse incident.  Domestic abuse impacts on children in a number of ways.  Children are at increased risk of physical injury during an incident, either by accident or because they attempt to intervene.  Even when not directly injured, children are greatly distressed by witnessing the physical and emotional suffering of a parent.  Operation Encompass has been created to address this situation.  It is the implementation of key partnership working between the police and schools.  The aim of sharing information with local schools is to allow 'Key Adults' the opportunity of engaging with the child and to provide access to support that allows them to remain in a safe but secure familiar environment.  This knowledge given to schools through Operation Encompass, allows the provision of immediate early intervention through silent or overt support dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child.
